Residents near Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland are claiming that the base's former use as a chemical testing site is still causing health problems today. Raising awareness of these risks is just one way you can help protect our veterans from dealing with their military-related disabilities alone.
The claims began in late 2011 when Randy White filed a mass tort lawsuit against the fort, claiming it caused the cancer-related deaths of his ex-wife and daughter and is the cause of his other daughter's type-2 diabetes.
His claim echoes several Frederick residents who also blame various cancers on Fort Detrick, a base known to be a central research facility for biological warfare tests from the 1940's-1960's.
White has been organizing concerned residents at meetings to discuss the ongoing concern of Agent Orange exposure from the fort. He encourages residents that have been diagnosed with cancer in the area to join him in seeking answers to the risk of living near the site.
No abnormal cancer rates in Frederick have been found, but ongoing reports may hold new analysis.
It's not only veterans that have to deal with the aftermath of Agent Orange use during the Vietnam War. Many veterans' families have to cope with the health issues of their loved one. In the case of Fort Detrick, it's believed that exposure risks can last into present day near research and transport sites.
