


As part of the Department of Veterans Affairs efforts in ending and preventing homelessness amongst veterans, the VA founded the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans hotline to give veterans free 24/7 access to trained counselors.
One of the primary ways the hotline offers homeless veterans assistance is by informing of and directing them to various local services, including homeless veterans' shelters.
Using the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, there are an estimated 107,000 veterans that are homeless on any given night. This sad, startling figure demonstrates just how vital it is to develop and utilize programs that offer at-risk and homeless veterans' assistance.

Trained VA staff members can offer assistance and provide you with information about homeless veterans' shelters and mental health services that are available in your area.

The VA homelessness hotline is one of the initiatives put in place to help put an end to this crisis. When someone calls the toll-free number, any information taken and requested will remain completely confidential.
The staff member who receives the call can quickly assess your needs and then either refer you to the Homeless Point of Contact at a nearby VA facility, or provide you with helpful information about other local services such as becoming a volunteer to help veterans in need.
