Disabling Illnesses Common to the Gulf War Veteran (Part B)

Exposure Illnesses Commonly Linked to the Gulf War Veteran

Veterans of many wars have developed disabling medical conditions due to various types of exposure during service. In some cases, being stationed near certain areas such as burn pits or oil wells caused environmental exposure-related illnesses. Other cases of illnesses due to exposure can be seen in a Desert Storm veteran who was involved in transport or research facilities that handled hazardous chemicals.

An unknown amount of hazardous substances and conditions were present in the early Gulf War years and current soldiers serving in Southeast Asia are still at risk of exposure.

A veteran of the earlier Gulf War years may have been exposed to risks from:

  • vaccinations;
  • anti-nerve agents;
  • pesticides; and
  • even uranium.

Gulf War veterans benefits will cover many types of exposure illnesses if the Gulf War veteran can provide proof that the condition was developed due to service in Southwest Asia. It's here where problems arise in obtaining this proof - and you can help.

Options for a Gulf War Veteran to Obtain Gulf War Veterans Benefits

If you're the friend or family member of a Desert Storm veteran or other service member who was involved in Southeast Asia military operations you should be concerned if they develop any abnormal medical conditions. Many veterans don't realize that their disabilities are potentially related to their service in the Gulf War military operations.

While the VA tries to support everyone, from the Desert Storm veteran through current Iraq War soldiers, they often can't meet the demand. By supporting veterans advocacy groups such as Care for Disabled Veterans you can help supply a veteran with the necessary access to Independent Medical Exams (IMEs), resources for benefits, and medical support.

Don't let another Gulf War veteran continue to live their life with disabling illnesses without proper support from the VA. The more resources we can provide to connect Gulf War veterans with benefits they deserve, the better we as a nation can show our appreciation for these brave men and women!

You Have the Power to Help a Disabled American Veteran!

Medical evidence is a critical component in the successful fight for veterans disability benefits. Unfortunately, many veterans lack the financial resources to obtain an independent medical exam (IME) that can provide this crucial evidence. These deserving men and women are left to rely on the VA medical system, which may not always provide the best assessment of their conditions.

At Care for Disabled Veterans we focus on connecting qualified veterans to doctors and health care facilities that provide IME services for disability claims. We are a non-profit organization that relies on donations to help provide the funding necessary to obtain these records and help disabled American veterans qualify for combat-related disability benefits.
