Post-traumatic Stress Disorder in War Veterans: Disability of a Veteran (Part B)

Providing Access to Care For Disability in Veteran Soldiers

One of the major problems with the VA disability rating system is the time it takes for a post-traumatic stress disorder war veteran to get a proper diagnosis and qualification. Qualifying for PTSD as a disability in veteran soldiers requires evaluation by a mental health professional, which is often not immediately available at the clinics.

When Iraq and Afghanistan veterans of America go to the VA hospitals and clinics for a disability evaluation they are usually unable to get a designation for PTSD.

To qualify for PTSD a veteran must:

  • schedule a review by a mental health professional;
  • obtain a diagnosis; and
  • file for their disability benefits before they can receive treatment and funding.

All of these hurdles to benefits can cause undue stress on both the veteran and their caregivers or family.

Anyone Can Help Speed Up the Verification of PTSD Disability in a Veteran

The best way for anyone to help our Iraq and Afghanistan veterans of America who suffer from PTSD is to help them get the disability benefits and treatment they need. You don't need to be a doctor or caretaker, anyone who can spare a few dollars to provide funding to veteran advocacy groups will make a difference!

Instead of going through multiple exams in the VA system, an Independent Medical Exam (IME) can often be a one-stop solution to obtaining a proper rating for disability.
IMEs can be performed by any type of medical professional, so a post-traumatic stress disorder war veteran can go directly to a mental health professional if they know they are disabled from this condition.

Allowing our veterans access to medical evaluations without restriction and with physicians of their choice is an excellent way to help them obtain disability ratings, health care, and the benefits they deserve.

You Have Power to Help Disabled Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America!

Medical evidence is a critical component in the successful fight for veterans disability benefits. Unfortunately, many veterans lack the financial resources to obtain an independent medical exam (IME) that can provide this crucial evidence. These deserving men and women are left to rely on the VA medical system, which may not always provide the best assessment of their conditions.

At Care for Disabled Veterans we focus on connecting qualified veterans to doctors and health care facilities that provide IME services for disability claims. We are a non-profit organization that relies on donations to help provide the funding necessary to obtain these records and help disabled American veterans qualify for combat-related disability benefits.
