Caring for the American Veteran: Avoiding Caregiver Burnout (Part B)

Access to Medical Care Benefits the Retired Veteran and Their Caretaker

With the donations received at Care for Disabled Veterans we help provide funding for Independent Medical Exams (IME).
This helps retired veterans get faster, more accurate decisions on their disability ratings than if they had gone strictly through the VA. Once the American veteran obtains a disability rating they can qualify for disability benefits, treatment at VA clinics, and other benefits.

When a caregiver has more support resources like the VA clinics and doctors they can have another set of eyes and ears on their patient. In many cases, getting outside medical assistance also helps a caregiver better understand some of the disabilities veterans face. This can reduce their frustration when it seems like there's nothing to be done for their patient.

There are many other resources we provide that may help caregivers avoid burnout.
Our networking efforts with professionals who also support the American veteran let us connect caregivers with local resources to help make their lives easier. Our veterans affairs website gives a general overview of resources, but we provide more targeted support.

Final Thoughts on Caregiver Burnout

If you're a caregiver of retired veterans remember that you're only human and it's okay to feel overwhelmed once in a while.
Don't allow burnout to get the best of you - you can't help others when you let your own health and well-being suffer. Know when to ask for help, and places like the Veterans Affairs website or organizations are the resources you should seek.

If you want to help support a caregiver for retired veterans you can do so in many ways. Personal involvement can be possible in some cases, but many veterans require specialized care provided only by a trained caregiver. The sure-fire way to provide help to the American veteran and their caregivers is by supporting veterans advocacy groups like Care for Disabled Veterans.

You Have the Power to Help a Disabled American Veteran!

Medical evidence is a critical component in the successful fight for veterans disability benefits. Unfortunately, many veterans lack the financial resources to obtain an independent medical exam (IME) that can provide this crucial evidence. These deserving men and women are left to rely on the VA medical system, which may not always provide the best assessment of their conditions.

At Care for Disabled Veterans we focus on connecting qualified veterans to doctors and health care facilities that provide IME services for disability claims. We are a non-profit organization that relies on donations to help provide the funding necessary to obtain these records and help disabled American veterans qualify for combat-related disability benefits.
