Treating a US Veteran with Veterans Compensation for PTSD (Part B)

Providing a US Veteran with Access to Cognitive Therapy

By identifying what triggers PTSD symptoms in a US veteran the therapist can help them cope with the anger, fear, and guilt often associated with these thoughts.
Veterans compensation usually focuses on providing benefits toward cognitive therapy for treating PTSD in veterans.

Cognitive therapy is done with a mental health professional such as a therapist or psychologist. They evaluate the veteran's experiences and symptoms, then they focus on helping them understand how their thoughts and reactions can exacerbate their condition.

Redirecting the negative thoughts and reactions into less harmful and more positive behaviors
helps slowly replace the anxiety a veteran may feel in certain situations.

Breaking Down the Barriers to Veterans Compensation

Cognitive therapy is common for PTSD veteran treatment, but even the simplest forms of care come at a cost.
While many large VA clinics offer these services to those receiving veterans compensation, if a US veteran cannot obtain a disability rating to qualify, or they live in a more remote area, easy access to these services is nearly impossible.

To give a veteran a better chance at obtaining the proper care and treatment for PTSD it's often necessary to go outside the VA system first. An Independent Medical Exam (IME) can often allow a veteran to obtain a proper diagnosis and assessment of PTSD much faster than through the VA. Many alternative therapies are also not covered by the VA, leaving many veterans unable to obtain a more effective treatment.

Helping a US veteran obtain these services is something that anyone can do.
By supporting veterans advocacy groups like Care for Disabled Veterans with a monetary donation you can cover the cost of an IME for a deserving veteran. Professionals in the medical field can also lend their strength by offering their services to organizations that connect veterans to the proper care resources.

You Have the Power to Help a Disabled American Veteran!

Medical evidence is a critical component in the successful fight for veterans disability benefits. Unfortunately, many veterans lack the financial resources to obtain an independent medical exam (IME) that can provide this crucial evidence. These deserving men and women are left to rely on the VA medical system, which may not always provide the best assessment of their conditions.

At Care for Disabled Veterans we focus on connecting qualified veterans to doctors and health care facilities that provide IME services for disability claims. We are a non-profit organization that relies on donations to help provide the funding necessary to obtain these records and help disabled American veterans qualify for combat-related disability benefits.
