Donating from Your IRA: A Way to Make a United States Veterans Tribute (Part B)

Tax Benefits for Donating to Veterans Tribute Charities

If you are looking to reduce your estate tax while supporting our United States veterans you should definitely look into donating from your IRA this year! Before you do, make sure that one or more of the following scenarios apply to your situation:

  • you do not itemize your deductions;
  • you do itemize, but charitable donation deductions would be delayed by the 50% of adjusted gross income restriction;
  • you are looking to avoid paying taxes on your required minimum yearly distribution amount of your IRA; and
  • you are interested in a quick, easy and productive way to reduce your estate taxes.

Once you have determined if you can afford to make a veterans tribute by donating from your IRA this year, it is time to say thank you for our veterans' service!

The greatest benefit you can get out of donating is knowing your money is going to help provide veterans get
the disability ratings and benefits they need through the Department of Veterans Affairs to live a better and healthier life.

There are additional tax-related benefits you can gain by donating from your IRA and saying thank you to our veterans, including:

  • qualified charitable donations do not impact your adjusted gross income;
  • qualified charitable donations are exempt from the 50% AGI rule for itemized donations;
  • qualified charitable donations qualify as part of a traditional IRA yearly requirement for minimum distribution rules; and
  • qualified charitable donations come from the taxable layer of your IRA balance.

As with any financial transactions, you should speak with a financial advisor before taking action to make sure you are taking the proper steps to benefit tax-wise.

Say Thank You to United States Veterans!

Many of us would not be where we are today without the service and sacrifice of our veterans. Customizing your own veterans' tribute can show your greatest appreciation whether it be a parade, picnic, donation, etc.

You Have the Power to Help United States Veterans!

Medical evidence is a critical component in the successful fight for veterans' disability benefits. Unfortunately, many veterans lack the financial resources to obtain an independent medical exam (IME) that can provide this crucial evidence.

At Care for Disabled Veterans we focus on connecting qualified veterans to doctors and health care facilities that provide IME services for disability claims. We are a non-profit organization that relies on donations to help provide the funding necessary to obtain these records and help disabled American veterans qualify for combat-related disability benefits.
